The Location

Royal Randwick is located in the eastern suburbs of Sydney, the most populated city in Australia. It is situated about six kilometres from the Sydney Central Business District and eight kilometres from the Airport.

History

Royal Randwick Racecourse has been welcoming horse racing aficionados since 1833. At first, it bore the name of “Sandy Course” due to the nature of the terrain.

Interestingly, the venue was officially called “Royal Randwick,” back in 1992, when Queen Elizabeth II came to open the Paddock Stand.

The Australian Turf Club has been in control of the racecourse since 2011 and the merge of the Australian Jockey Club and the Sydney Turf Club.

Races

Depending on the time when you are visiting Australia, you can watch races both in spring and autumn.

The ATC Queen Elizabeth Stakes occurs every April with the distance of 2000m and $4 million in prize money. The race happens on the second day of the Championships and is the most expensive 2000m turf race.

The TAB Everest takes place on the second Saturday of October as a part of the Sydney Spring Carnival. It is a 1200m Weight for Age Thoroughbred horse race, introduced in 2017. Also, it is the richest horse race with $13 million in prize money.

Hospitality

Royal Randwick also offers a wide variety of experiences besides horse racing. However, if you are not a member of the Australian Turf Club, you cannot enjoy everything that Royal Randwick has to offer.

Although some venues accept non-members, they always have options that are only available for members.

It can take up to 450 guests and it offers a great view of the Royal Randwick straight. Here you can expect an excellent three-course meal and an exquisite beverage package. Also, there is a TV monitor at every table and you will be able to attend the private betting facilities.

If you are looking for a more exclusive experience, then the private suites are the right choice. Moreover, you will be granted with an exclusive entrance to the racecourse and a personal host. Also, everyone gets a racebook and infield parking.

The Chairman’s Club

In case that you are looking for the best possible racing experience — then you should visit the Chairman’s Club. It is a part of the Queen Elizabeth II Grandstand and it is located on the First Level. One of the best features is that you will have a reserved table on the race day.

The Stables

You can find this exclusive dining safe on the fourth Level of the Queen Elizabeth II Grandstand. It offers unique enjoyment to the Australian Turf Club members with its excellent food and ambience. The Stables also have a breathtaking terrace that is great for lunches and drinking cocktails.
