Manly Beach

One of Australia’s most famous beaches

The Location

Manly Beach is a part of the Northern Beaches of Sydney that lies along the Australian East coast. The three main parts of Manly Beach are:

  • North Steyne
  • South Steyne
  • Queenscliff

If you would like to visit Manly Beach, you can only do it by ferry. If you opt for the public one, it will take you around half an hour, while the private ones travel for twenty minutes.

One of the advantages of travelling by ferry is the breathtaking view of the ocean. Also, you will get a unique opportunity for sightseeing, since you will get a great view of the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge.

The Corso

As a soon as you step off the ferry, you will get to the Corso that leads you to the wonderful sandy beach. It is actually the main street that serves as a stage for many aspiring artists and musicians.

Also, it is packed with bars, gift shops, and cafes. Therefore, feel free to come hungry and thirsty. The only problem you might have is picking out the best place to go to. (This side of Sydney has a wealth of sights to see, both natural and manmade.

Why is it so great?

First of all, Manly Beach offers a three-kilometre-long stretch of marshmallow-soft sand. The atmosphere will make you forget about all the worries and the city’s rush hours.

If you are looking to learn something new while having fun — you can also do that. Along the Cabbage Tree Bay Eco-Sculpture Walk, you will come across sculptures that represent the history of the surrounding area.

Also, you can always simply sunbathe and enjoy the serenity of the water. There are a lot of vendors at the beach where you can easily rent an umbrella or a chair. Drinks and food can be found near the beach, so you don’t need to go far for a refreshment.

Surfing

It would be a pity not to try surfing when coming to this wonderful beach. However, if you are not that adventurous, you can always just watch the more skilled ones.

There is a surfing school for beginners and you can also get the necessary equipment down at the beach. Also, international competitions are held quite often, so you might run into one of them.

Moreover, Manly Beach served as a host for the first world surfing championship.

However, if you are looking for a great place for surfing, visit the Queenscliff at the northern end of the beach. Here you will find great waves that are a result of the submerged reef.

Take a walk

In addition to all this, there is a great walking track that goes up to the Spit Bridge. Along the way, you will see an array of wonderful beaches, such as Sandy Beach. If you are an athletic type, you can always continue to the difficult terrain of North Head.

If all of this is not enough, you can always take up snorkelling. Moreover, you will get a guide that will accompany you and teach you about the mesmerizing marine wildlife. A great place for snorkelling is Shelly Beach.
